The older I get the more I find myself sitting back and just observing the events that are taking place around me. I still find that I have strong opinions about events and topics, but I am slower to offer them up to those I am in contact with. It is difficult at times, especially in this turbulent time of war and elections. Politics....I almost hate the word any more.
As much as I do believe in the importance of being involved in the political process, it does wear on my nerves. I keep asking why does it have to be so ugly? Why do politicians have to go to the darkside to put themselves at odds with their rivals? I looked up the word in the dictionary and got these entries:
Main Entry: pol·i·ti·cian
Function: noun
Pronunciation: "pä-l&-'ti-sh&n
1 : a person experienced in the art or science of government ; especially : one actively engaged in conducting the business of a government
2 a : a person engaged in party politics as a profession b : a person primarily interested in political office for selfish or other narrow usually short-sighted reasons
Entry number two is very discriptive and speaks volumes as to how politicians are viewed today. Nothing noble here.
It does give one pause, especially as we endure the Presidential campaign for the next nine months!
